There’s a quote that I saw the other day that read:
"Practically every other mammal hides and sleeps through the winter while Man in all their wisdom and pomposity decided to uphold summer productivity standards - and now if I, the mammal that I am, fall short - it’s deemed seasonal effective disorder”
It’s not realistic to expect yourself to be healthy when the days are shorter and the weather is cooler.
It’s not realistic to expect yourself to be in a state of constantly “doing” when the days are filled with far less sunlight and a lot more darkness.
Your body is naturally going to want more rest, because your body is a part of nature. Your body is one with nature — that’s how biology works.
It’s not like we’re separate from our environments. We are influenced by our environments and we impact our environments as well. We move with the seasons. When we ignore our natural inclinations to rest and slow down, our immune systems suppress and it inevitably results in sickness.
You’re a human being not a machine.
You can’t just flip a switch where you just turn your brain and body “on and off”. That’s how televisions and computers work. That’s not how human beings work.
Don’t expect yourself to operate in the same way as an electronic device.
You deserve to be treated better than that.
So be gentle with yourself — and others as well.
You deserve to rest when you feel you need to — and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
